29th October 2018 sees the second anniversary of the opening of the Grade II listed Chapel on the Hill in Kimberley which has panoramic views over Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
On July 22nd 2015 Historic England awarded the Chapel a Grade II listing. The Council then started restoration work on 25th July 2015, so it could be used for Civil Ceremonies, Funerals, Naming Ceremonies and Renewing of Vows.
Volunteers, including local tradesmen, councillors, contractors, and members of the public, all gave up their free time to join in this Kimberley community restoration project.
Since the official opening by Anna Soubry on the 29th October 2016, it has gone from strength to strength. We have now had 26 weddings and 16 funerals. We also currently have 17 future bookings confirmed and are getting numerous enquiries which will hopefully turn into more bookings.
Due to the success of the Chapel a much need toilet facility with fully disabled access was more recently constructed close to the Chapel with exterior cedar cladding to blend in with its surroundings.
Again, most of the work on this was carried out by volunteers.
